Hi Su. Thanks for your comprehensive review and the link. I agree with several of your points regarding the cons with the hootsuite app: using framed shortened urls, only using ow.ly for shortened urls.

Didn't realize the "in reply to" feature was missing. That is key to finding out what the one/two word replies were all about.

I found a good comparison list between Hootsuite's iPhone app and Tweetie2 here:

Made some points I missed (for example you can post images to Posterous.com from tweetie2 by choosing it as your image handler).

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Robert, some things I hadn't thought of there.
Do you really not miss being able to see replies? The threaded replies really are a bonus to me with Tweetie.

I was an early adopter of Tweetie and in my view it was always head and shoulders above the others. Upgraded to Tweetie 2 within minutes of it appearing in the app store, and I haven't been disappointed. Like you, I got into using HootSuite via the web, and find it excellent and getting better and better.

As soon as I saw the announcement of HootSuite for the iPhone, I downloaded it. I've found it faithfully replicates the functionality of the web app, apart from LinkedIn and FaceBook integration, and it also won't display my columns of favourites.

I actually really like it. In many ways I prefer it to Tweetie, and that's saying something since I am such a fan of Tweetie. It is much easier to access all the streams I follow. It implements lists very well. Adding someone to a list is MUCH faster than tweetie and requires less navigation, which I appreciate.

Unlike you I've found that favoriting tweets and following/unfollowing works perfectly, and it's much faster than tweetie. In fact I love the way the favoriting works, because it lets me favorite a tweet into any of my accounts. I have six.

I do have a bit of a wishlist.

I'd like to be able to drill down into people's follower and following lists, as with tweetie and others, and follow those that appeal. The web version doesn't do this either, but implementing this would save me having to use other tools.

I would like it to integrate with LinkedIn and Facebook, as the web version does.

I would really like instapaper/read it later functionality added, but at the tweet level, not at the rendered web page level (Tweetie could do with this too). Often I spot something I would like to read, but I really don't have time to wait for a web page to render, nor do I want to drain my battery in the process. Read it later integration would solve that at a stroke.

While lists are well implemented, when adding to a list it's often not possible to see the name of the list. My lists all begin with marketingwizdom/xxxx ... and can't see the rest. I can see the marketingwizdom bit (my twitter ID), but not the name of the list itself.

Tweetie also adds a check to each list on which the person is present, which helps. On the other hand Tweetie takes forever to display the lists, whereas Hootsuite does this fast and without any drama.

When looking at the tweets in a list I can't tell which list I'm in. I can see the marketingwizdom bit (my twitter ID), but not the name of the list itself ...

If these things were attended to Hootsuite would be pretty much ideal. I find it very nifty to use. It's quick on my iPhone. I still find myself using it more and more in place of Tweetie, and I can't say that about any other app.
